At Gündönümu Dairy Farm, the workshops designed by Tezek Evleri, which is a part of the 8 thousand100 project initiated by Aysun and Mehmet Sökmen, to understand, design and build ecological houses with local, natural and recycled materials, continue this year as well.

Workshops prepared for those who are interested in construction and design, both professionally and amateurly, will be held at Gündönümu Dairy Farm between May 4 and September 16. Detailed information about the introduction to natural structures, basic carpentry training, natural plaster workshop and rocket stove workshop are below.
Introduction to Natural Buildings (10 – 17 June / 1 – 8 July)
One-week workshops, which involve working with natural materials such as earth, straw and wood, offer a great opportunity to learn about natural architecture by touching and experiencing it one-on-one. In addition to the applications to be made on basic carpentry, wall construction, plastering techniques and flooring, theoretical trainings such as the structure of the soil and bioclimatic design principles are also included in the workshop program.
In this one-week workshop, soil/straw rough plaster floors, foundation carpentry, grout inner wall, floor finishes, floors etc. will be covered. Many techniques will be explored, including

Basic Carpentry Training (4 – 6 May / 11 – 13 May / 18 – 20 May)
Basic carpentry training will take place two days each weekend, for a total of three weekends. Seating units will be made of solid wood using different techniques and hand tools throughout the training. The training will also be enriched with theoretical presentations.
A large part of the labor required for the Tekekevleri project consists of woodwork. Wood is used in every detail of natural structures and therefore any builder or anyone who builds their own home may encounter various situations that require woodworking skills.

Natural Plaster Workshop (22 – 29 July)
The Tezekevler team decided to come together again with the positive feedback it received from the natural plaster workshop held in 2017 and organize a complete training in both practical and theoretical terms. Techniques to be applied in existing buildings will cover different types of plaster, from earthen rough plasters to water-resistant tadelakt plasters, and it will be aimed for the participants to establish a solid foundation in plaster both practically and theoretically.

Rocket Stove Workshop (17 – 19 August / 24 – 26 August / 14 – 16 September)
Rocket stoves, that is, earth heaters working as a thermal mass, remain hot for a long time even if the fire is extinguished, providing excellent performance with less wood. Workshop participants will experience the science behind this powerful natural heater, both by building a rocket stove and learning its theory.
Rocket stoves are wonderful heaters with the thermal mass principle, which stays hot for a long time after the fire goes out and consumes less wood. Participants will discover the science behind this powerful heating method. The workshops, where a rocket stove will be built with the Tezekevler team, will be held on August 17-19 and August 24-26.
An efficient stove can only be achieved as a result of proper planning and construction. But it takes more experience and effort to make it aesthetic. For this, the focus will be on finishing the finishing works of the stove with fine plasters made of natural materials between 14-16 September.
The three-week-long workshop is open to anyone who builds their own stove and actively seeks experience in natural structures.
